"Successful Strategies in Aboriginal Organisations" is a two year research project initiated by the Australian Collaboration but subsequently developed in close association with the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS). The purpose of the study was to explore examples of successes in Indigenous organisations across the nation, to focus attention on those successes and to draw out the lessons that can be learnt from them.
The findings of the study are reported in three volumes. The first two volumes examine and analyse strategies in sixteen Indigenous organisations that have been successful in promoting community wellbeing and overcoming disadvantage. The third volume is concerned with joint management of Indigenous lands of high conservation value.
Volume 1. Organising for Success: Policy Report explores the policy implications of the research and formulates them into six sets of recommendations for government and Indigenous leaders.
Volume 2. Maps to Success, is framed as a practical handbook for Indigenous organisations. The salient features of success within Indigenous organisatons are explored in a practical, ‘can do’ fashion, ending with numerous examples of how organisations can become stronger by forming alliances with government, the wider community and the private sector.
Volume 3. Indigenous Partnerships in Protected Area Management in Australia, reports specifically on three case studies on joint management of lands of conservation value, ending with a series of recommendations for policy-makers and governments.
The costs of the printed copies are: $21 for Organising for Success: Policy Report, $12 for Maps to Success and $9 for Indigenous Partnerships in Protected Area Management in Australia. All costs include postage and handling. To order go to Order Books and Reports. The three reports can also be downloaded free (text-only PDF files).
